This project was inspired by the Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights course hosted by the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg Florida. The project is intended for college students and the general public. The objective is to show how close of a connection we had during World War II with refugees, prisoners of war, and the military. It is also to consider the choices made to send a ship of refugees away from the United States through the lens of history, economics, and politics related to the time period.
Consider the following questions: Why did America decide to turn the St. Louis away?
How did they come to this decision?
What would have happened if they accepted the passengers instead?
What would happen if the same situation come up today? Would we make a similar decision or one that is different? Why?
